Just when I was about to publish this post, I received a call from my wife. She accidentally skid out in the car and put it in the ditch. Needless to say, i was glad she was alright, but the car was damaged. Strangely enough, the damage was eerily similar to the damage in this ad. The ad about your wife damaging the car. weird.
On that note, Here is a great video of VW Beetle’s meeting both major and minor annoyances:

I own a very old volkswagen beetle from West German.
But here in Tanzania we are unable to get spairparts, and if we go online they are also very expensive for us.
How can I get at least a 1500 cc engene to replace my old one? how many kilometers can I volkswagen beetle travel per day?
Poor Beetles! Love the ad also. I guess your wife will always bang up your ride.
Great music Great vid … it sad to see the bugs get smashed like that … it would be awesome to see the survival rate on all the crashes. oh and i never saw a beetle in Iraq the entire time i was there. what was the song on that vid.
the easiest way to keep your wife from wrecking your car is to not let her drive it. done problem solved
I remember those ads. In fact, I remember how “cutting edge” VW ads were in those days. Reading thru the copy, I realized that NO ad painting women in such and unflattering and stereotyped light would ever be published today without a general outcry.
Only ads picturing men as stupid and incompetent are permitted in today’s culture.
Although the “women are bad drivers” joke wouldn’t be used today, the angle of having access to cheap replacement parts if very appealing. I think VW have always managed to stay ahead of the game when it comes to advertising their cars.
